Wedding Palace, directed by Christine Yoo, is a comedy about 29-year-old Jason Kim (Brian Tee of Fast and the Furious and Tokyo Drift) who is pressured by his family to find a bride before hitting the age of 30. As him and his family visit a shaman played by Margaret Cho (Drop Dead Diva and 30 Rock) Jason is told that if he doesn’t marry before turning 30 he will die a horrible death. Wedding Palace is a film about online dating, first impressions, finding true love or finding a path to regrets. This film will be screened at the Paramount Theatre in the Bright Family Screening Room, in Boston.
I Am A Ghost, directed by H.P. Mendoza, is horror film about a woman, Emily (Anna Ishida), who is a ghost that doesn’t know her past or present state due to her mental illness. Sylvia (Jeannie Barragoa), who settles in the residence Emily once owned, makes the effort to find out answers to why she is so confused of her state of existence. This film will be screened at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.
At 9:30 the festival will present its special showcase The Fear Buffet: A Shorts Program which features 6 short films:
Dumpling: King Lee, Father and former boxer with the reputation of killing an opponent in the ring, does his best to try and connect with his son, King Lee, by giving him a gift that not only will make him into a man, but change both of their lives forever. Sammy’s father doesn’t know that on his 21st birthday he secretly will leave to start a new life.
How War Ends: A film about two brothers who experienced Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge which leaves one brother able to deal with the painful memories while the other still under control of the trauma he experienced.
Fortune Cookie Magic Tricks: In the belief that homosexuality can be “cured” a traditional father, Huang, visits his ill son, Justin, that’s cooped up at a hospital and teaches him about the “birds and the bees.” Huang then performs an exorcism which suddenly awakens zombies. They can only defeat the enemy by setting aside their own differences.
