The 2012 Boston Asian American Film Festival, a production of the Asian American Resource Workshop, is now accepting submissions! 

The Boston Asian American Film Festival (BAAFF) empowers Asian Americans through film by showcasing Asian American experiences and serving as a resource to filmmakers and the Greater Boston community.

We are seeking narratives, dramas, comedies, shorts, documentaries, animations, music videos and experimental films.

The 2012 Boston Asian American Film Festival will be held October 25-28, 2012.  Please note that these dates are tentative and are subject to change in the coming months.

This June marks the 30th Anniversary of the death of Vincent Chin. Join us on Tuesday, June 19 - the anniversary of his attack -  for a community screening of the documentary Vincent Who?

The BAAFF festival coordinator is a key member of the masterminds behind the festival. She or he will coordinate with Film Festival Director and Committee members in managing the planning, execution, and implementation of the film festival.

Short Waves, BAAFF's screening of short videos in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, is set for May 23, 2012 at Josiah Quincy School, 7:00pm. The screening will feature shorts collected from the Open Call. The top four submissions will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges at the event. The competition finalists will have the honor of automatic acceptance into the 2012 Boston Asian American Film Festival.

Communications Intern Position
AARW seeks a student intern for the Spring semester to support the Boston Asian American Film Festival (BAAFF).


BAAFF plans two key annual events Short Waves--open call for community short videos, competition and community screening in May--and the signature festival in November. Assistance is needed this semester to help with planning these two events. Learn what it takes to put on a community event and why people get involved, while working with the festival director and a fun and dedicated committee. You’ll help to execute logistics, work with community partners, and provide communications and general support.

Possible projects include:
  • Writing and coordinating monthly e-newsletter
  • (Fundraising and social) Event planning
  • Developing relationships with community partners and businesses
  • Planning a Social Media campaign
We’re looking for an intern with:
  • A positive attitude
  • The ability to roll-up their sleeves and get the job done
  • Interest in Asian American community issues and media
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Writing skills (for newsletter articles, business correspondences, etc)
  • Familiarity with using social media sites including Facebook and Twitter
  • Ability to attend approximately 2 Wed night (6:30-8:30pm) meetings a month
  • Event planning experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of HTML or video editing (helpful, not required)
